Earning Your Trainee Appraiser License

The path to becoming a real estate appraiser in Illinois starts with trainee appraiser education. It’s your gateway to gaining experience in the field working under a supervisory appraiser. The Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) sets the standard for required qualifying education and our program sets you up for success to advance with confidence.

The CE Shop's self-paced online courses covering appraisal principles and procedures are designed to help you easily retain property valuation concepts in a way that works for you. Our live stream, 15-hour National USPAP Course helps you navigate the ever-changing landscape of USPAP regulations and is taught by an expert appraiser with decades of experience in the field.

Requirements For the State of Illinois

Illinois State Requirement Details for Associate Real Estate Trainee Appraiser Qualifying Education

Hours Required by the State: 75 hours

• 30-hour Basic Appraisal Principles
• 30-hour Basic Appraisal Procedures
• 15-hour National USPAP Course

Required Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser Course: Individuals seeking to become Associate Real Estate Trainee Appraisers must complete at least the AQB portion of the Supervisor-Trainee Course prior to first issue. They must follow up by completing the Illinois portion within one year of completing the AQB portion. The 3-hour, classroom-only Illinois jurisdiction version is not currently offered by The CE Shop. This course requirement is in addition to the 75 hours of qualifying education required.

Note: All qualifying education must be completed within the 5-year period immediately preceding the date of application for an Associate Real Estate Trainee Appraiser credential.

Licensing Exam: The licensing exam is administered by PSI. Registration for the state licensing exam is an entirely separate process from proctoring for your course final exam. For instructions to register for your state licensing exam and further information, please click here.

Proctored Final Exam: The state requires your final exam to be proctored. You’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. You can find full details of the proctoring process here. Upon passing the final course exam, you will be asked to sign an affidavit verifying your identity as the student who completed the course and the final course exam. Final exams must be passed with a minimum of 70%.

Max Hours in a 24-Hour Period: Students will not receive credit for more than 8 hours of qualifying education in a 24-hour period. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.

Reporting: The state does not require schools to report course completions.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. See Terms & Conditions for more details.

Certificates: Immediately upon course completions, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.
